Labour offers solution to nation’s weight problem
Biggest Loser winner makes good on his promise to help overweight Australians lose weight – with 1400 kilos dropped from the weight of the nation

While the Rudd government may have stepped up to the plate with strategies (The National Preventative Health Strategy) to halt and reverse the rise of overweight and obesity and the associated costs of weight-related chronic disease, it’s “labour” in the physical sense that will solve our weight problem, says Biggest Loser winner and director of The New Me Weight Loss Retreat, Adro Sarnelli.

It was with sheer hard work that Adro lost a staggering 52 kilograms in four months and took out the title of Australia’s first biggest loser. On winning, he made a promise to help as many overweight Australians have the same opportunity to lose weight that he had. So he paid it forward by setting up his own weight loss retreat, in 2008, called The New Me, in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula suburb of Mt Eliza.

In the past year The New Me has helped fellow overweight and obese Australians lose a combined total of over 1400 kilograms! Putting a real dint in Australia’s obesity epidemic. Predicted costs for obesity-related chronic disease, mainly Type 2 diabetes, is expected to increase from $1.3 billion in 2002/3 to $8 billion by 2032. The New Me Retreat has already slowed this increase and reduced this cost by dropping 1400 kilograms from the overweight and obesity burden.

On winning the inaugural The Biggest Loser, went on to develop his weight loss philosophy of EAT SMART, MOVE MORE, THINK THIN, which he teaches at The New Me.

This amazing weight loss come personal development come fitness come holistic retreat is based on all the key components he used to drop weight – fast and for good. “Most people find it hard to stay motivated and on track amidst everyday distractions and temptations,” says Adro. “The greatest tool that The Biggest Loser gave me was confinement, so I could create new lifestyle patterns that suited my goals rather than my habits. Coming to a retreat allows people to be in a focused environment, with round-the-clock support, healthy eating and cooking, and personal training, to concentrate solely on losing weight.”

The New Me recently introduced a finance option, allowing guests to take up a personal lending package through Evergreen Brokers for 6, 12, 18 or 24 months at a variable interest rate sitting at around 16 percent – less than most credit cards! The introduction of the finance package is a first in the industry. No more “I can’t afford it” excuse. Make your difference to Australia’s weight problem by becoming one less overweight statistic. And discover a brand new you!

ADRO’S 5 TIPS TO SPRING INTO SHAPE
One of key strategies for reducing overweight and obesity of The National Preventative Health Strategy is to “embed physical activity and healthy eating in everyday life.” Adro couldn’t agree more. “And spring is the perfect time to start embedding these habits,” he says.
1. Dress bright and fresh
Utilise the sun and warmth. Get rid of your frumpy old trackie-dacks and get into some bright colours. Dressing bright will allow you to feel bright and create a fresh-and-focused mindset. Meaning, it’s a lot easier to feel great when you’re dressed great.
2. Take advantage of the longer days
Start getting up a little earlier and going for a walk or doing some exercise. You can take in the beautiful smells and sounds of nature springing into life. The symphony of wildlife should surely see you returning for more activity day after day.
3. Eat fresh
Now is the perfect time to choose from an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Swap winter comfort foods and packaged foods for fresh food and you will automatically be eating healthier and be on your way to weight loss.
4. Goal set
Make a get healthy plan for the next few months. Spring is the best time to prepare for summer, the festive season, family holidays etc. Now is the time to think fresh and prepare a calendar full of healthy eating and active appointments such as bush walks and hikes, swimming, outdoor personal training, bike riding and so on. This plan will see you reach some health and fitness goals, weight loss goals as well as share in an increased quality of life with your loved ones.
5. Have healthy outing days with the family

Nothing says, “I love you” more than TIME. Be sure to grab the family and set out on some wonderful picnics, games in the park, bush expeditions etc. Remember that if you take your family on your healthy journey with you then it will be easier to stick to, far more beneficial for the whole family, not to mention the extra support and bonding time you gain.
